The officials trip to Singapore for me might be an eye opener to them and see an example of a prosperous city with very low corruption or none at all and a prosperous exciting world that our country as a whole will take decades to come up to it's level of economic prosperity which I believe because of no corruption .other reasons of course contributes to it's being a very flourished city. The money spent for the trip is a diff. story. Can't comment . Just have the mayor and his constituents answer that. Like Hongkong, they have an independent group that tracks down official expences to prevent corruption. Umingan???????? . The treasurer? Who audits him ???

Madam, Trying to retrieve your message regarding kids' glove. Did not succeed but thanks anyway for your advice. FYI, Ihave no gloves to take off. I have never been involved in any physical combat but battle of wits, humor and wisdom. I know you very well. I have met you on several occasions. You are very beautiful endowed with exceptional class and character. Have we been under the same generation, you are a prime candidate. Will I pass? Probably not because I was poor and ugly, nothing to offer but a huge heart and splendid character. You know me too. If you don't, I doubt your intelligence. It is unfortunate that I am involved in an ugly confrontation. I tried to be gentle and nice but if you go against someone who is arrogant and know-it-all. there's not chance to a peaceful resolution. I was cussed at, ridiculed and laughed at especially when I mentioned a poor and apathetic life. I was criticized for wrong use of tenses, past and present, even advised to use my "coconut". It did not bother me but adversely impacted our good and prestigious alma maters, UES and ICHS that granted me the highest honors on graduation day. Had I been corrected or asked and given explanation, this mess could have been avoided. Well. I'm getting out of this confrontation. It does not do me any good. In the first place, I am not supposed to be posting any message. I am old and I don't need anything. I don't need recognition and respect. I have had them both. You'll be surprised to know who I am, putting myself on a very low level considering my age and stature. If you feel that something is wrong, can't we resolve the issue amicably in a more polite and courteous manner? Going back to my message on 2/25/11, you and I have the same idea about providing the library with materials such as CD, DVD which benefit the general public and not a WiFi which can be used only by those with computers. Unfortunately, my suggestion fell into deaf ears in favor of the WiFi presumably because the (WiFi) source has more clout. The mayor should get involved in the library's operation to ensure discipline and order. To jump start this project, may the librarian ask for donation of used CDs & DVDs thru this website. Invitation was extended via facebook and I thought b a blast idea to celebrate my 25 th wedding anniversary with my family and old friends . I thank the umingan association . I had the best time. We are very proud of our accomplishment so we want everyone to know what we went through and had done. At the outset, it appeared that we were doomed to fail because of poor responses and the incredulous attitude of the pessimists.Worse is the inter personal conflicts that the association has nothing to deal with and contributed to their adverse decision. Our main objective is to unite all Uminganians, to care and love one another. That we saw throughout the entire course of the festivities. The atmosphere and camaraderie was fabulous, not a single person was somber. We did not see any ray of light at the end of the tunnel until people started trickling to the picnic venue last Friday, Jul 15. At about 3:00 pm, the organizing committee's attitude started turning around, similar to the Bin Laden scenario of the Obama's group. Later, it became a bedlam that attempts to quiet down the gathering even for a brief period for important announcement was futile. When introducing and letting everyone's identity known thru the PA system, the group became more behaved and domesticated and the din from the nearby traffic became more noticeable. Everyone except the shy ones marched to the microphone. Recognized were the presence of Mrs. Noli Belisario and Mrs. Milagring Liganor, the two oldest members of the association, the entire Lardizabal family, and the out-of state families. The dinner-dance's atmosphere is a continuation of where we left off the previous night. Everyone considered the evening to be the primary reason of their Las Vegas visit, oblivious of the amenities and bright spots of the city. Had there been a Pacquiao fight, I doubt if such event will draw them away. The organizing Committee started rejoicing when everyone was seated for the rest of the evening. Dancing did not end until 1:00am when the doors closed and contract with the band has expired. The coronation of Miss UANA and awarding of plaques of recognition to town mates with extraordinary achievements was very organized. It was indeed another successful night, keeping the association's tradition of holding grand affairs and a testimony that there are still people who are loyal and devoted to our town. These are people who had been gone long time ago yet still very proud to be called native sons and daughters of Umingan. They sacrificed financially and found time to be with us despite the rigors of their family life. We were asked about sponsoring another reunion. Unfortunately, we are skeptical due to the darkening shadows of life.. Most of us are on SSS payroll and considering the arduous task, we did not promise. If another group especially the younger generations can fill our shoes,rest assured that the UANA will be very supportive and be a reliable partner. Once again, thanks so much to all who made this affair possible. We found new friends and relatives. To all who attended, may we have feedbacks. We are very sure that you enjoyed and have a pleasant recollection of what you saw and experienced with us.We appreciated your company and looking forward to seeing you again in the future. The sports complex (gym) and the telephone facility are bad enough to have ruined the beauty of our town plaza, dwarfing the monuments of our national heroes, Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio. And now the mall to be erected within the elementary school grounds, what kind of mentality do our town leaders have? Don't they realize the value of education derived from a pleasant and quiet atmosphere? What will the mall do to our town? Is it economically feasible to have such structure? Isn't the public market not good enough to meet the needs of the townspeople? While most part of the world such as Egypt, Libya, and Tunisia are in turmoil, fighting to get rid of their selfish leader, Umingan is aslept. Gumising tayo mga kabayan. What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses the grace of his own soul? It is easier for a camel to go thru the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into the kingdom of God. Wealthy and happy is a man who is contented with what he has and never asks for more. Hope these are worth listening to.

Today, I specially pray for his family, for his wife,for his two young children, and for the parishioners of the Umingan Independent Catholic Church. I pray that they may continue to honor the memory of Father Lagartera.His love and dedication to the church; his honesty and humility, portray him as the embodiment of a true priest. Today, I lament our loss. He died at a very young age of 41 years. Perhaps it is God's will that Dr. Rose did not let Father Lagartera use the ambulance at that time of emergent need. It's unfortunate that the passing of Fr. Lagatera is influenced by selfishness on the part of the municipal doctor and the mayor as well. This is a plain and sheer ignorance about the value of the ambulance for emergency. If the doctor refused to have the ambulance when Fr. Lagatera was fighting for his life, he does not deserve to be a municipal doctor. Where is his ethics and where did he learn that the ambulance is for a more influential case or person? |My Granddad ( Apong ) passed away at 3:00 am today UK time. He was 105 years old. He was a very happy man loved by everyone. When we were young my sisters and my cousins used to go to his house and stay overnight supposedly just for the weekend. We would end up staying for I don't know how long because he was such a very friendly grandfather to us that we can't just leave his house as soon as we get there. He would sing us lovely songs, dance, play all his different types of instruments. The Violin was my favourite, but he also played the Rondalia, guitar, mouth organ and even the leaf from the garden. My late Dad would turn up to check on us, bring us some clean clothes and fruit. In the evening we fed his hundreds of ducks and chickens, herding them to the river for drinks. In the morning we all wake up early to pick up lots and lots of eggs. I will never forget those memorable times with my grandfather. Rest in peace Apong, we are all going to miss you.

The success of the 2003 Grand Reunion and the UANA 25th anniversary celebration both held in Las Vegas prompted the above association to hold another dinner dance in that city in July, 2011. A generous town mate from Halifax, Nova Scotia personally pledged the sum of $3000.00 for the event. I was poor, growing up under the most unfavorable circumstances. I did not have anything to offer but a sincere and loving heart. Consequently, I was never welcome in any woman's home. Without a promising future, chance of marrying a beautiful Umingan woman is slim and none. Through hard work and perseverance, I finished college and got a good job that qualified me for overseas venture. The UANA picnic held last July 31 at Cerritos Regional Park was a rousing success. It was the first major event of the association since its 25th anniversary celebration and ball held in Las Vegas last Aug.2. 2008 Despite the short notice, the turn-out was overwhelming.It was indeed very heartening to see that the spirit and enthusiasm of the members have not subsided.
