In November 2007, the United Pangasinan of Hawaii (UPH) awarded 36 scholarship awards to students of 11 National High Schools namely Bayambang, Calasiao Comprehensive, Binalonan “Juan G. Macaraeg”, Lingayen “Pangasinan”, Malasiqui, Mangaldan, Mapandan, Natividad, San Fabian, Tayug, and Urdaneta City. Salvador Maza, one of the Advisers of UPH, personally presented the scholarship certificates and monetary awards ($100.00 each) to the recipients in the presence of the Principal and/or the faculty staff. The 2008 UPH Scholarship Award Program application form/criteria will be announced through www.pangasinan.org sometime in May 2008 (Thanks Fernando). One of the United Pangasinan of Hawaii (UPH) scholarship committee will present the awards to the recipients of the 2007 UPH Scholarship Award Program between November 12, 2007 and November 30, 2007. The names of the recipients may be viewed by clicking back to Homepage, then UPH Scholarship on the right hand side of the screen. If you know anyone of the recipients, please tell them not to be absent in class during the dates mentioned above. Congratulations to our UPH scholarship recipients. UPH believes in education; one of our core values is a deep respect for learning. Since the inception of UPH, we have supported education by awarding scholarships to college students who are sons and daughters of active members of UPH here in Hawaii. This year (2007), we started the United Pangasinan Scholarship Award Program for public high school students in the province of Pangasinan. In order to qualify for consideration, college students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher; have full time enrollment status; demonstrate financial need and involvement in community service. The 2007 scholarship recipients are: Jason Celestino - $1,000.00; Tristan Martinez - $500.00; UPH allotted $3,600.00 for the thirty-six public high school students in Pangasinan. On behalf of UPH officers and members, we wish to congratulate this year’s winners for their hard work and pursuit of higher education. We also would like to thank the UPH Scholarship Award Program Committee members namely Sally Blancas Agas, Gavy Baricaua, Floro Dioquino, Leo Pol Limos, Sal Maza, Cely Querido and the UPH President Bill Villareal; they spent several hours in developing the criteria and then reviewing all documents submitted by each applicant. Applications for next year’s scholarship will be sent to the principal of selected high schools for dissemination and will also be available online through Mr. Fernando Marinas’ website at www.pangasinan.org.
