Our deepest condolence and sympathy to the family of the late Attorney Lubin Estrellas Devera who passed away on May 24, 2008 in the family home on Mabini Street, Binmaley. Attorney Lubin Devera leaves behind his wife Annunciacion, his children Romulo (Molong), Carlus (Carl), Imelda (Imee) and Lubin (Jun)Devera and his grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his daughter Marlu last March, 2006. Attorney Devera was the former Provincial Assessor of Pangasinana during the 1970's and 1980' and served over 25 years of Civil Service for the Province of Pangasinan

I can still remember...it's almost eleven, everyone's in bed. Someone, somehow, has the radio on, softly. "Aubrey" is playing.. the smell of Fr. Kemmerer's cigar still lingering in the air.... hearing Aubrey now always reminds me of how good a guitar player Albert Magno was and how good piano players Melquiades and Raymond were.I just know they still are.Following graduation Carlo Magno U. even stayed w me in Baguio before transferring to Manila.I saw him on tv years later defending some misguided souls accused of bombing some building. And now I heard he died..

Just an idea: In 1975 a national exams for the philippine science high school, I heard, was given. Five thousand students passed the exam and qualified. Only 150 were accepted for the first class. One of them is now the chief-of-staff of the phil armed forces. I was just wondering what happened to the rest? A thought: why don't we get together to give scholarships to the next 100 or even a small class of 30? The alumni of MHCS could start a special school in Pangasinan. I know someone who would be willing to donate 1000 sq. meters for the school. Just a thought.

Just discovered this web page and I apologize for my tardiness. Nevertheless, I am really glad to see that magic word "kabalens" once again. Nic, do we get a lot of attendees from our batch-mates to this reunions? I might not remember their names and faces offhand but with a little nudge to the right direction, I know they'll all come back. I know you're doing a great job playing the alumni historian and lost and found person, but, do you have access to the roster of the 1970 graduates (or non graduates due to "unforeseen reasons")? I really miss that group! Also, I'm sorry but I can't commit myself to this 2007 reunion in San Diego just yet. July to December are actually the busiest times of my job. But, this isn't my "final answer" yet. Let me know the deadline for reservations. "AKULAW" - hey, I just remembered that word, did I spell it right? Ha!Ha!

I respectfully suggest that each of the suffragan dioceses with the approval of their bishops and priests designate volunteer seminarians to serve the filipino catholics in the future in at least the following US cities: New York, New Jersey ( Fr.Tibay is there), San Francisco ( Msgr Bitanga is there), Seattle, San Diego, LA,Sacramento ( a Pangasinan sem. is enrolled at St. Patrick's) and others. Sort of an outreach or missionary program.

Greetings to all kabalenses out there in the Philippines and here in the USA!I belong to MHCS batch 1993. The batch which produced 3 priests, Fr. Melchor Braga, Fr. Ulysses Cacho and Fr. Rojohn Ramirez. Though I wasn't lucky enough to be called to the priesthood I'm still proud of my alma mater MHCS. After my 4-years stay in Binmaley I took up Nursing and proceeded to take up Medicine in the University of Santo Tomas. I'm now working in Mercy Hospital Scranton, the Catholic regional heart hospital of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Just got here last December 13, 2005 under immigrant visa sponsorship. To my batchmates, goodluck to all your endeavors and I wish you all the best in life. Hope to see you when the class plans to have its reunion!

MHCS will celebrate Diamond Anniversary in 2004. Committees and coordinators are currently being formed headed by Dandy Calvez, a member of Class '71. If interested please indicate through this forum. The Mary Help Of Christians Seminary in Binmaley, Pangasinan originally was the old rectory of Our of Lady of Purification Catholic Church. Bishop Guerrero converted the Spanish style adjunct to house the first thirty-three seminarians, among whom turned out to be hierarchical leaders of the early seventies. Managed by Societas Verbi Divini (SVD) priests, MHCS became a silent pillar for priestly formation as well as an academy of solid christian faith and good citizenship. The school produced numerous priests, educators, businessmen, administrators, military members, medical practitioners and lawyers.

A thought from a long lost kabalen!
I only spent 2 years in the hallowed grounds of the Seminary. Upon walking through those double doors in December 2001 (Kabalens Reunion), the clock turned 22 years backwards. As I browsed the neglected pictures along the dark and lonely corridors, I could almost hear the booming voice of Fr. Holobrady and the soothing words of Fr. Healy. I thought I was in a fantasy land until I climbed up the steps into the chapel. Then there I was, feeling "home"!
Kabalens Reunion 2001, was indeed a homecoming for some, if not most, of us. I was awe-struck by the way I was welcomed as a "kabalen" by Mel Velasco and company, Batch 81 folks, and above all, Batch 82- my classmates. Thank you guys and what a great party! I was so glad for the opportunity to be part of the reunion. At least, right there and then, I reestablished my link to the Seminary. I encourage all kabalens who come across this site to attend the reunion.
Batch 82 (and I think '84) will host this year's reunion. My kailian, Marlon Faraon, and the rest of Batch 82 are spearheading the effort. I will get in contact with Mr. Faraon to post the exact date of the reunion. But I believe it falls on every 29th of December. Proceeds will always go towards the Seminary. My understanding is that the Seminary is no longer subsidized by the Diocese of Dagupan.

To my MHCS Binmaley Kabalens, let's give thanks to the Tayug.com webmaster for instituting this powerful medium so that we can reach out to each other. In mid 1999, former Vice Gov. Gonz Duque, Raffy Baraan, Mel Velasco, Fr. Rey Romero planned and succeeded in gathering more than 600 MHCS Alumni in Feb 2000. From as far as Sydney, Toronto and our motherland, alumni flooded into those gigantic double doors to renew their camaraderie and friendship. The day was unsurpassed. December 2000 could not compare even an inch. However, a Las Vegas reunion in July 8-11, 2002 has been launched and this occassion promises to be a challenge on a grander scale.
