Kabaleyans: I am a victim of drunk driving in the highways of Pangasinan in February 2010. After negotiating for my release on the same night from police custody, noting all circumstances are all in my favor such as right of way, DUI, I was charged for reckless imprudence. The police and medical reports submitted by the complainant never stated that the tricycle driver is drunk at the time of accident. Worst, I was charged in court without me receiving a copy of the complaint. Today, I am out on bail. Ssome friends of the same flight are urging me to form an organization which may sound like: ViDDA (Victims of Drunk Driving Alliance, the objective of which are to bring order in the streets/highways, the traffic enforcers to implement the Land Transportation Code of the Philippines, standardized police reports/blotters to include in their investigations whether drivers are AB+ or AB-, lobby to our governments (barangay/municipal/provincial/national/DPWH) to improve all roads so as to conform with international road standards, make mandatory training to all driver's license holders be it truck, car, tricycles, motorcycles, kuliglig or pogpog so that they will be aware of the the Land Tansportation Code and make acquiring a driver's license similar to the standards of the USA, include in the school curriculum (elementary/HS/college) the Land Transportation Code...etc. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, PLEASE EMAIL ME.... WE CAN PROBABLY START THIS ADVOCACY VIA THE INTERNET. SOME PANGASINAN LAWYERS WERE CONVINCED OF THE IDEA AND WILLING TO SUPPORT US.

Attention Officers , Members and Friends of the Bayambang Association of Southern California, On October 10, 2008, the officers of the Bayambang Association of Southern California had an emergency meeting. The agendum was the most recent calamity which hit Northern Philippines, in which Pangasinan was one of those most heavily affected. Unfortunately, Bayambang was one of the six towns/cities which was not spared from the wrath of typhoon “Peping”, and in fact is extremely flooded. News is all over the world. Some footages are currently featured on-line (search Bayambang floods ). Our kabaleyan are of need of all types of help. In order for our organization to give its share, the officers had decided to cancel our upcoming event, the “Holloween Masquerade”. We had contacted those who already made their payments for the event’s tickets. For those who chose and decided to donate their payments to the calamity victims, thank you very much for your generosity. For those who requested that their payments be sent back to them , your checks were already mailed back. For those whose checks were already deposited by the association, you should be receiving your refund checks within three days from the time when any of the officers was notified. The officers of the Bayambang Association of Southern California coordinated with the officers of the Bayambang Association of San Diego. Initially, the plan was to send food relief, but according to our correspondents who are volunteering in some relief distribution centers in Bayambang, the victims are also in need of blankets, mats and mosquito nets, which the officers had decided of giving. So far San Diego had donated $1000.00. Our organization had decided to maximize the contribution from our available funds. We currently have $3300.00 on hand in which $2700.00 is supposedly for our February 2010 medical and dental mission We will be using the entire $3300.00 as a calamity relief. We are still expecting a refund from our supposed event’s venue’s rental and pledges made by some members and friends, which hopefully if all are collected should be around $3000.00. For now we will concentrate on helping the calamity victims. We will still pursue our medical and dental mission and the officers are fully confident that before February we will eventually come up with the needed funds. We are giving 2 blankets, a mat and a mosquito net, which would be good for each family of five and would cost P385.00/combination, equivalent to $8.40 (at P46.00/$1 exchange rate). At first we thought of giving a package of 1 blanket/1 mat/1net but we later realized that five people sharing a queen size blanket would be an inconvenience. Since we want to help then why not make sure that our help would really bring our brothers and sisters the ease and comfort. As of 10/15/09, we have 513 packages which we will be able to provide. We have not remitted any funds yet to our correspondents in Bayambang, but the operation has already been started. One anonymous correspondent has volunteered to lend us her savings, which was used to purchase the first 100. In addition, she volunteered her van to be utilized to distribute the relief to the affected areas. Our correspondents who are teachers of the Bayambang National High School and Pangasinan State University have already started the distribution on 10/15/09. Some are still spot checking those areas and barrios which were badly hit by “Peping”, and which will be prioritized. For now, our operation will concentrate in the remote barrios of Bayambang and Bautista.The 513 packages is not enough and we are still continually soliciting for donations. Please, if you want to help, send your donations to either the Bayambang Association of Southern California or the Bayambang Association of San Diego. We did not ask the involvement of any private or government institution in the Philippines in this drive to have the assurance that all donations will benefit only the calamity victims. All our correspondents in Bayambang and Bautista were recommended by the officers who will stand responsible for the actions of those who they volunteered. The Presidents of both organizations guarantee everyone that the operation will be fully monitored and everyone will be updated regularly. However after reading your message I realized you got it right about showing them the strength we found in our brotherhood and sisterhood. Why get rid of a problem when none exists ? It is nice to remember old days of college days whirlwind love that it is so confusing yet fascinating.Now they are great memories that gives rainbow color to our past and so so so sweet to remember specially now that we are old with our own espouses and families. Now, sister, I know those people you mentioned.Lolokohin ko sila next meeting. The Marriot fiesta celebration was really successful and full of fun. You guys did incredible job with your dedication and heartfelt motivation making the affair a very enjoyable one. Due to recession nga we can only go as far as Long Beach lang, maybe Bayambang when recession subsides. Anyway, maybe a caroling venue on December to raise more funds since lots of talented singers and musicians(especially the oldies) were proofs of their choral numbers. This is just suggestion 'cuz Bayambang Asscoc. of San Diego was a success during Jun Diaz presidency although kulang or lot of times no back up musical instrument but just a karaoke music box. You are right.I stand corrected.Renato Milo belongs to the BNHS class '73.As a matter of fact most of the officers belong to Class '72.I am the only one from the class '73.In addition to his creatively composed choral piece, Renato accompanied us with his playing the keyboard of his organ.We sounded much better I think.Surprisngly , he went up the stage and joined the live band playing the keyboard of his organ jammimg with them.He expertly got in sync well with the band.We thought Renato signed a contract with the band.Everytime there is a meeting of the association or there is Novena, he brings with him his electric organ and that add fun and enjoy specially when everybody sings most of the '70's songs with his accompaniment.Most of the time we hold meetings in the house of Raquel Puzon Mejia in Burbank,CA. or at Dr. Aida Romero Guarin's clinic in Lomita, California.With free food most of the time -sushi or pizza --you can't beat it.WE are all having fun and I can see we are united and we move with actions not by words.Last November there was also a dinner Dance of the Bayambang Association of Southern california at the Double Tree Hotel in Carson, California.Attendance was equally incredible in spite of this severe US economic recession that spared no one.It is safe to assume that everybody is poor at least by 40 to 50 percent if not worse specially for those who lost jobs or closed their own businesses.These two dinner dance were only 3 months gap from each other yet succesful-- a strong evidence that we are very united and supportive to one another.I could see dedication and action in the association.i will post more about the events.I am sleepy now.I enjoyed the dinner dance and danced the night away.The lead singer of the band got off from the stage to the dance floor singing and dancing.I can't help but fondly danced with her with great body gyrations.Nakakahiya yata ako.I don't know!!!Honestly, this is without the power of spirit of wine.We all have fun indeed.I danced with Aida but I can't get the tempo of swing.I tried to dance with Raquel Mejia Puzon but she was just busy with her job as Secretary/treasurer.I did dance with wife of Kuya Atty. Tony Carungay to break the ice.It as great--it was waltz to the tune of Tennesse Waltz.We remembered our traditional fiesta at the plaza.More to be posted.I am just sleepy now.I hope readers will like it.I am open for comments or suggestions.Kumusta to all.

The Bayambang Association of Southern California held its traditional Bayambang Town Fiesta at the Marriott Hotel in Long Beach,California last March 28, 2009.It was a success.The ballroom was full to capacity and guests enjoyed the night dancing to the music being played by the band composed mainly of Pangasinense.They played some Pangasinan music that made us more homesick.In spite of the frolic & fun at the ballroom , our hearts and minds were with fellow Bayambangguenos who we missed and have not seen for so many years.We missed you all.In light of this,there is an upcoming 2010 Medical- Dental Mission jointly sponsored by the University of Santo Tomas Medical Alumni Association of Southern California and its incumbent President is our fellow townmate Dr. Juanito Garlitos, and the Bayambang Association of Southern California.Our townmates Dr. Juanito Garlitos and our Bayambang Association of Southern California Vice-President Dr. Aida Romero Guarin are spearheading this 2007 dental-medical mission.Our Bayambang Association of Southern California President Froilan Camacho in an on the spot fund raising for this mission he was able to raise 2,500 dollars in 15 minutes with an equal matching fund from the University of Santo Tomas Medical Alumni Association of Southern California.To all the guests present who generously donated on the spot you deserve kudos from everybody.Everybody's presence of course is equally important for the sucess of the fiesta in the hotel.Carolyn Ferrer and me were the emcees of the affair and we saw the enthusiasm of all the guests present who saw to it that our townmates back home are not left out in the celebration.We were surprised by the outpouring suuport from our fellow townmates who came near and far cities of Souhern California in spite of this econmic recession that everybody is facing in USA.To give you a glimpse of the highlights of the event at the Marriott Hotel, there was a crowning ceremony and presentation of reigning beauties just like our town fiesta back home in Bayambang.The Bayambang Association of Souhern California Board of Directors gave three choral renditions to the delight of the audience --Malinak Lay Labi, Love Is a many splendored Thing and the other piece I forgot.Not to be out smarted,the officers of the Bayambang Association of Sothern California rendered also a choral rendition that made everybody felt like gyrating to its tempo--the title of the choral piece is "BAYAMBANG" the tune of" MANILA, MANILA" by the Hotdog of the 70's.It was arranged and composed with adaptation by Sonny Milo of BNHS Class 1973. The Bayambang Association of Southern California held its first Bayambang Open Golf Tournament at the private golf course of Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club Coto de Caza ,California.It was a modest start but something to begin with a bigger one in the future.The tournament went well and was able to raise some funds for the association.There were prizes of course.I coordinated the event,with the help of our dedicated association Vice -President Dr. Aida Romero Guarin, with a breakfast by the tournament participants in our house prior tournament followed by a luncheon awarding ceremony at the the clubhouse after the tournament. To all my Kabaleyans in all corners of the world. The Bayambang Association of Southern California's officers and members would like to invite you all to get involved in our 2009 Dental Mission for all the kids , ages 2 through 12, during the week of the 2009 Bayambang Fiesta. This will be our opportunity to give back . If you are a member of your local organization or association, please let your officers know that this would be a sure success if we could do this as a joint project. We are already contacting the Bayambang local dentists and those who have dental clinics in Bayambang. We already got a confirmation from six non-Bayambang residents from Metro Manila and two who are flying from California , who will be rendering their services at no cost. If you are a dentist and you will be coming home for the 2009 fiesta or practicing locally in Bayambang, please get involved. We are also in the process of soliciting dental hygiene supplies. Please bring this up to your Association. Our officers will be flying to Bayambang for at least two weeks to entirely render our time for this public service. I'm sure that at least one from you Association or Organization will be at the 2009 town fiesta and it would be best if you could appoint that someone to be your Representative. If you would be participating, please direct it to your association and have your association or organization coordinate with us, so we could advise them about how your contribution could be handled. We will stay out of your contribution, meaning, your representative will be the only one who will have a hand to it and we will just coordinate so we could come up with one organized system. I will be sending the names of our local contacts in Bayambang, who will be coordinating the arrangements of the venues, advertising and who will working with our local volunteers. They will not be handling funds. They are volunteers who committed their time at no cost. We need help for the advertizing. We will be needing tarpaulin banners for this Dental Mission, at least one for each school and public areas. We set a very limited budget for the advertising since we need to alot most for the actual services. If you want to donate a tarpaulin banner, I will be sending the name of the person who will act as the agent for the advertising materials in my next email. I just want to get the assurance that we get the cheapest cost. You could just send one of your relatives who is currently residing in Bayambang to directly contact the person and order and pay the tarpaulin directly. Just let know how many is it that you could donate to avoid any excess . Regarding the dental hygiene supplies (toothpaste, toothbrush and/or floss) donations , we advise that you just send it to your local organizations and ship altogether to Bayambang. Designate your own Association's donations handler. Please do not send any contribution to anyone aside from your own reprentative . The Dental Mission will bevduring the 2009 Town Fiesta week. We will be gathering all who will be involved in this mission a day before the first day of the mission in Bayambang. We will be sending everyone updates through this message board. If you are not a member of any Bayambang Association or any organization, and you would like to get involved, please post your message here for transparency.
