Zacarias de Guzman is suggesting a reunion for our batch. Marilyn Posadas is due to come home in January 2011 and said she would be glad if we could have one. Zac could contact other batchmates abroad like Wanda Pioquinto-Capua, Emnas Mangaoil-Punzalan, Dionisia Macaraeg, Ernesto Roy, Tomas Ferrer, Ireneo dela Cruz, etc. We need people to organize the reunion there at homebase. I learned Nyda Macam Chu will be unavailable/busy for the next months. Could Rudy Ferrer spearhead the planning and organizing? Could batchmates around there help? Rose Merong? Hope to hear from you soon.

hello there. i wud like to ask ur help to find the address of the late Mrs. Catamba there in San Carlos Pangasinan. Her daugther frm Canada, Madilyn Catamba, who happens to be a friend of a friend of mine fr canada, recently got a news about her mother died 2wks ago frm now. My friend of mine wud like to validate that news coz madilyn is really affected onto it. anyone who cud give us info about the address of the mother of Madilyn Catamba is very much appreciated. im asking this for the reason dat madilyn gave us a very small info about her hometown and family of hers. we came up to this solution so my friends frm canada (who happens to know her) cn help her and maybe even cn send someone to visit and help her family. please email me for any info.thank u very much. at the moment we dont have the first name of her mother Mrs Catamba.

It would be fun to recall our adventures or misadventures during high school. Miss ---- , a lady teacher, sometimes would lose her lunch ( baon) because some naughty students would eat it. The students were also taught to be polite so every time they met a teacher, they would be greeted Good morning or Good Afternoon, sir. Two old teachers were always the victims of mischievous boys because instead of good morning greetings, the boys would bow and say “ paltak mo, sir” and the old teachers would greet back Good Morning…hehehe.

Thank you for the quick well expressed message. I am impressed. Yeah, I know a few of the instructors you mentioned. Mr Ravina, I believed coach the basketball team there with Mr. Munoz, Mr Vallejos, I know Tony his son and his good looking daughter, Mr Aquino, Ms.Ocasio. Landmark? I like that adjective. It is a good feeling to remember tnose days, although some think planting rice is never fun. Thanks again. Keep in touch.

Hi, I graduated in the mid 1950s and here are bits that you probably could remember. The principal was Alvaro Ravina, the head of the related subjects was Juan Aquino, aka as GI because he looked very European. As a freshman year, field work in the afternoon would be in the Horticulture dept under Mr. Efipanio Enerva. Sophomore year would rotate in Piggery under Mr. Ananias Zaratan, Poultry under Nicanor Garcia and Dairy under under Mr. Sandoval. Third year field work was under Mr. Vallejos, manpastol ka ne dueg. Fourth year was Farm Mechanics where you learned how to drive the tractor or make kitchen sinks, etc under Eduardo Paningbatan. Among the oldies that were landmark teachers were Miss Teodora Acasio and Miss Maria Erguiza. Mr. Juan Aquino terrorized his students for a semester of Arithmetic class. Mrs. Vicente Samson was a very sweet teacher who was very fashionable with her clothes matching her shoes and bag. Miss Florinda Callanta was a new teacher then, quiet young and pretty that she was the crush of all the boys. A week of rice planting season and a week of harvest would be a fun time off from classes. There was an Acasia tree at the back of the main building where students hang around before classes. Bottom line, did I have good time in high school? yes I did but did it prepare me for college? No, it was a disaster for me because I went to an Academic University to pursue a science and engineering oriented degree.

Curriculum was agriculture in both Rural high school and Sepnas during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. When did it shift to purely academic, wherein field works and animal care were no longer part of the daily schedule. During my time, one half of the day was spent in field work, and I had only one month summer vacation. We had only three academic classes during the day, the rest was basically related to Agriculture, so when we went to college to pursue Engineering or science related courses, we were lost, like SOL.

I'd like to thank you for giving me information re: Nieves, your cousin. With her husband's last name and where they reside (Canada) I went to Villasis website. I looked at the pictures and lists of associations, organizations. I saw Annak ti Villasis in Canada. I scrolled down the names of the members and Voila there was Nieves' name. I obtained the association address and sent a letter to Nieves and she was surprised. She called me on my cellphone 2 weeks ago. She's going to the Phils. this last days of April to visit and I have convinced her to see our classmates in San Carlos. Again, my thanks to you. :)

Fraulein, It’s nice that you saw me in this hidden corner. This was the old place where I had good time during my adolescent years and this place extended my childhood years for a little while because I had very little responsibilities. When a force is applied to a person, a force that is equal and in opposite direction is expected, a law of physics. That was the main reason why I was a late bloomer because I had the easiest time of my life. But I learned a lot in college to make up for the good times of my youth. Two years after I graduated from college, I landed a manager’s job and I matured very fast because of the challenges and the responsibilities involved. That was the story of my youth and my twenties. I learned lessons which I made sure that my son would avoid. He went to the right places for his schooling so my wife and I are very proud of his achievements. I knew you know my name, and my son’s name is Alfred. Try to google his name for his resume.

It is very interesting to read your postings here in this agricultural School. If i were a parent I would be sending my children in your school, even a girl.I am sure your knowledge is so essential especially nowadays in time of economic recession,a graduate in this school can surely, easily survive with the skills acquired.. In my hometown, there is a school( High School ) of Fisheries. They learn how to culture fish ,capture, process them like Tinapa, sardinas -making,etc. When they post, they write underfunny pseudonames like Fish Capture, Fish Preservation,Fish Culture,he!he!They explained to me the meaning behind their Posting names! Interesting!!!I had a woman friend who also graduated in such school as yours in Neuve Ecija and she speaks of Animal Husbandry, etc.I am a graduate of a private school, yes we had more academic subjects, I remember extensive Literature stuff,to the astonishments of my German clasmates when I recite Heinrich Heine, Goethe, Marlowe,M. Sangster, Browning, etc learned in my high schooldays.AG, I´ve been " un a pie" not "with the train",yes barefooted! Now, I wonder how you became a poet, author, a Zarzuela artdirector?

Do you still remember "The Flag Speaks" and the "Citizens' Reply"? If so, can someone please post it here? I was reciting them to my kids but was lost. I'd appreciate it if you can. If you may be missing some lines too, it should be alringt because anybody can just supply the missing lines from this site, that'd be fun, don't you think? Thanks....

High School years were fun because responsibilities and accountabilities were little because of our age, I consider those years as transition to the real world. I remember the time when I was thirteen and a sophomore. Our morning session would be spent learning agriculture and other academic subjects but the whole afternoon would be for field work in the different areas. For about 3 months, I was assigned in the dairy section and my job with a partner was to allow the goats and sheep to graze in the field. These goats were rowdy especially the ram ( male goat) who would roam around the track and field at the back of the school buildings. My partner suggested that I would take care of the ram and he would take care of the rest which I gladly accepted. At first, I had had trouble following this goat but then a light bulb flashed into my head . I went to a store and bought a rope, like the sturdy rope used for kite flying. The following afternoon, I tied the end of the goat’s handle to the rope, pegged it to the ground and allowed 40 meters for the ram to move around. The dairy teacher, Mr. S, was unaware of my trick because he could watch the ram happily grazing around the field without going out of bound. At the same time, I’d be setting under the mabolo tree catching up with my reading of the Pilipino and Tagalog comics, which helped me learn the tagalog language. I wonder if other students used some of the same tricks. I was raised in the town proper and I was not used to work in the fields. My other siblings went to private schools but I went to the Rural School because my house was just around the corner.

When I was in high school, there was a landmark that I considered sentimental, and that was the acacia tree at the back of the main building. I was barely a teenager when I met a girl , a young girl who was a good singer. She first got my attention when she sang the song “ Somewhere over the Rainbow” during her class convocation. Ever since then, I had waited for a chance to talk to her and it was noontime before the afternoon session when an opportunity came under that acacia tree. I came to know more about her, and that acacia tree provided me a cover for my bashfulness by giving me an inconspicuous reason to be near her because of the shade. It was a young boy’s “crush” and it filled the vacuum of my transition from being a boy to a young man. I wonder if the tree is still around, if it is, that tree would have a lot of stories to tell.

Rico, you might want to get in touch with SEPNAS office re: Homecoming. Yes,we had that homecoming in 2006 i think. I was not sure how I got hold of an info about it. But I know that not everyone got an invitation. I don't know why. Maybe, people changed address, went abroad, and in the case of girls, they got married and therefore had changed surnames. I really don't know, but there were about 15 in attendance in my batch of 100 students. Get in touch with Mrs. Soledad Manese, she was a SEPNAS grad too, and say what you have in mind. Another Homecoming is not bad. I am looking forward to seeing everyone again. Make it 2010 if that's okay. Good luck! :)

As far as I can remember, say sakey ya Kuyak, older by 6 years, nen nan-enrol duga-rogan SEPNAS la.I better ask him when I see him. As to academics, after graduating from SEPNAS, half of my classmates including myself went to Palaris Colleges to take some history and English subjects, all in one summer. When I went to college, and I compared myself to my classmates, Spanish labat so balo ed siak. I guess they had Spanish subjects in private schools but I never felt inferior because I came from an agricultural school. Eto pa ang isa sa sukatan ko that I am proud of my Alma Mater: we had Entrance Test, Interviews and Aptitude test that lasted for what - 2 weeks? Aptitude test - matira ang matibay, no agmo sarag so manpa-agew laka lad arom ya schools that would welcome anybody who can afford the tuition. Interviews, well, we've been interviewed in English, I don't know how we were scored on the interview. But Entrance test ? Sinapit da no siopa ray tanggapen da. Anggan akalabas kad Entrance no agmo sarag so manbagot na sisipot, you are free to leave, andi pasootan ta marami ang naghihintay sa spot mo. There's a limited number of students to enrol each year and all the teachers were properly certificated or had proper credentials. But even if you have the perseverance no agmo nilabas so Entance, sorry ka na lang. There was no re-take. Taga ak baryo kanyan onorong kami ni ya manpasahe to go to SEPNAS. Say amigak tan siak perpremiromi so onorong ed baley ya anggapoy kaiba min matakken. Basta walay binting ya pamasahe pawil patubo okay la. No labay moy mangaliw na kakanen mo di manakar kan pasempet. We did that, our first time to walk home, pinetek mi tae-taew, panangasi Diyos akasabi kami met agkami abalang. Unforgettable experiences! Until next time.

Virgie, Capigan da sinalatan so ngaran na escuelaan from S.C.R.H.S. to SEPNAS? Tepeten co ed sicayo, nen nan colehyo cayo, anganco kulang so background especially no say corso ya kinuha ninyo ay mga technical like Eng'g or other professional courses. I believed that the curriculum offered during the time when the school was Rural High School was sufficient to sustain you when you go to high standard schools.Half of my day was used to work in the field and my academic suject was just 2 to 3 hours a day. I had personally experienced the situation when I felt during my freshman year in college that all my classmates were smarter than me, because they went to an academic school. But I don't regret going to the SCRHS, because I had good time and I learned the basics of life. SAy regret co, agak nanbasa or nanaral during high school ta maenumay so subjects.

I agree with you Rico. If I have to go back to High School, ditan ak nin siansia man-enrol. Anggapoy pagbabawian kod inpan-aral kod SEPNAS. Say cuanen Amak nen saman, "No aliwan SEPNAS so pan-aralan mo, agka la man-aaral, manlaga ka lay ikamen!" Say antak ditan toak pina-enrol nen Amak ta P54.00 labat so bayaran annually (ya inutang ni), ta manaya anta nen Amak ya dakel ya naaral ko ditan, aliwan academics labat, but we were prepared to be future homemakers and future farmers, although it did not necessarily follow that we will all be farmers because most became professionals, too. What I mean is that, professional or not, we know how to prepare meals, we can go to farm and know where to start, girls can dress chicken, know how to sew/mend clothes, blah -blah, boys can plant rice or corn or whatever for subsistence, they can tend to flocks. In other words, we were taught life skills; we can be survivors given any kind of circumstances. SEPNAS is a school I won't forget. In fact my eldest son went there too although he did'nt finish - we had to leave the country. Mabuhay!

To Ricardo C. Munda Cruz, I'm 90 percent sure you were with the SEPNAS Softball team in the mid-70s & what position did you play again? I only remember first baseman Bonnie Mandapat, Macam, occupying shortstop, Reyes, the pitcher, Munoz, 2nd base? and the big and muscular catcher - what are their names again? Where are they now and the rest of the team? You guys were invincible - trouncing each opposing team.

This is to clarify that on the UPH scholarship announcement, San Carlos City NHS refers to "Speaker Eugenio Perez National Agricultural School". The UPH Scholarship Award Program Committee will accept applications from students of "Speaker Eugenio Perez National Agricultural School" only. A letter has been sent to the Principal of SEPNAS to disseminate copies of the application form. Aloha. /Fred
