A Visit to a Rural Health Unit in Pangasinan
View the slide show to witness yourself how a
typical rural health unit operates today in Pangasinan.

Today is Prenatal Clinic day, patients are pre-screened by medical personnel at the
front of the building, this is due to lack of space inside. During rainy days, this setup is not possible.

Patients are waiting to be seen by the only doctor.

 Patients have to wait
outside, inside is already full

The flow of patients is slow but going just
fine but these two caregivers taking BP readings has to take turn because they only have one of this instrument.

This room has a air cond. unit but it is hot inside....apparently "not cooling enough".

 a
patient being seen by the unit nurse.

There is a PC here, mainly use for recordkeeping and report purposes.

Patients are patiently waiting to be seen by the only doctor. I did not hear any complain.
I was told there is a shortage of doctors in public health service. Doctors are switching to Nursing. That is another
issue the government need to addressed.

The only BP instrument in the clinic for an average of 100 patients daily. I was told it
cost about 3K pesos each unit (approximately $60).
